Velociraptor Chasing Small Mammal by deskridge Velociraptor Chasing Small Mammal by deskridge
In 1971, fossils of a velociraptor and a protoceratops were found locked in combat. Aside from that though there is no direct evidence as to what velociraptors ate. Jurassic Park gets it wrong and depicts them way too big. It is not unreasonable to assume, though, that this turkey-sized dinosaur snacked on rat sized mammals of the day. Whether they did or not, it makes for a fun bit of paleoart.

The usual disclaimer about my paleoart: When it comes to paleoart, the images I create favor 'art' more than 'paleo'. While I try my best to depict animals as accurately as possible, I'm make no claim that they 100% scientifically accurate. The same goes for the environment I depict them in. I am primarily interested in creating aesthetically pleasing images. Scientific accuracy comes second.

Note: this scene uses purchased content.

Tools used: Poser, Vue, GIMP

Thanks for looking!

Love how you have caught so many forces converging at once. The pivoting of the raptor's body counterbalanced by its tail, you can almost feel the torque where its foot meets the sand.

"And the little mammal swore revenge against the raptor and its feathered kin, one that will be harbored by its descendants for eons to come. And this, my friends, is why we have fried chicken."

That would be my favourite of all the favourites I saw until now!
I love the dynamic movement of the raptor and the texture of the feathers!!

Awesome! Why does it have feathers, though?

Thanks, Velociraptors did indeed have feathers, apparently a great deal more than even I have depicted.

I didn't know that! It's good to know! I hope you keep up the good work because it's impressive :)
