I've done a few bison images in the winter, but now that it is spring here in the metro atlanta area, I felt like it was time for a more spring time themed image of the great American bison. At first I thought that the name may be a bit reduntant. I had always thought that all bison lived in North America, but it turns out that there is, in fact, two species of bison. The one I am most familiar with is the American Bison (Bison bison) also called the American Buffalo and includes two sub species: the plains bison and the wood bison. The other breed is the wisent (Bison bonasus) also known as the European wood bison and can be found in eastern europe.
Note: this image uses purchased products. The bison was posed using Poser 6 and was then imported into Vue 9 where the rest of the scene was constructed. Final rendering was done in vue and took about 45 hours on an Intel I5 2.8GHz with 8 GB of RAM. Post production was done in GIMP.
