The latest in my art of the American West series. An American Indian rides a tan and white mustang across the late summer grassy plains. Off in the distance he sees a distinct pattern of smoke clouds rising above the hills.

Tools Used: Blender, Poser, Vue

Thanks for looking!
Daniel

It is CGI art. It's made using the same sort of technology as Pixar does to make movies, only I make still images not animations with sound.

This is completely gorgeous! I do have a question, though. Why would a Native American man ride saddleback?

To answer your question:

It’s a popular misconception that American Indians always rode bareback. They did so for hunting and battle, but for routine riding, they often used saddles.

Before the U.S. expanded westward, various tribes made their own saddles (see this page of the Journal of Lewis and Clark for an example: [link]) . Also, when the U.S did expand west, they would get European style saddles from white settlers or make their own based on what they saw.

Here are another couple of pages on the subject: [link] and [link]

this is very cool, tho I don't understand why an Indian would have a nice metal bit and stirrup.

It is entirely possible that an American Indian could get such tack through contact with settlers from the expanding U.S.. Quite often they would trade for it, win it in battle, an, on occasion, steal it.
