Medieval Huntress by deskridge Medieval Huntress by deskridge
The mists clear upon a scene in a dense forest. Along the rocky banks of a winding stream, moss covered oaks grow twisted and thick. A woman wearing a black outfit with white fur trim carries a spear and is accompanies by a pair of hunting dogs. Sighting her quarry, the huntress sounds a recheat on her horn to send her hounds into action.

The "Huntress" or "Goddess of the Hunt" is a common theme in art originating in ancient times with images of the goddesses such as Artemis, Diana, Arduinna, Abnoba. It's a subject I've wanted to try for a while. Typically, such a scene would have a female carrying a bow rather than a spear, but I decided that the linear form of the spear worked better in this composition. However, I stayed true to the subject by including dogs, which were often depicted in paintings of Diana.

I've been working on this artwork for several weeks mostly on the details in the forest. The render took a long time too as I made this large enough for a massive sized print, nearly four feet tall and six feet wide.

Note: this scene uses purchased content.

Tools used: Sculptris, Poser, Vue, GIMP

Thanks for looking!

I love your stuff, and the whole concept of computer-generated nature art is cool idea.

One suggestion though -- for your human characters you need to exaggerate their postures more.  If you look at art from ancient classics (people draped over each other) or modern comic art, you'll see that it is more interesting when the posture is exaggerated.  For example, here she should probably be arched back more blowing the horn higher, with face, chest and midsection compressed to emphasize the power of blast, and her legs should be squat down just a bit more to give sense of really planting her feet.

Similarly for another pic you have with woman on a dock throwing something for her dog, she needs to be more exaggerated.

It will feel weird at first because it does seem like exaggeration, but try it and you'll see your art will look more compelling.
