Lost in the Enchanted Forest

While riding through a deep, dark forest, a knight has been knocked from his horse by a low branch. He has landed in a small stream and seems pretty sure that his horse is laughing at him. Recovering from his humiliation, he looks up to see a long-haired, beautiful young woman in a long dress smiling at him from behind an old oak. Accompanying here is a small cadre of forest animals.

There are numerous legends and stories of knights and princes meeting strange beauties in the heart of magical forests. Having two young children, I was recently exposed to one such story. In this case, it was Disney's "Sleeping Beauty". While not specifically an illustration or fan art, this work was definitely inspired by that movie.

Note: this scene uses purchased content. The people and animals were posed in poser then imported into Vue where the rest of the scene was constructed. The tree in the foreground was sculpted in ZBRush. Final rendering was done in Vue and took about 24 hours on an Intel I5 2.8 GHz with 8 GB of RAM. Post production was done in GIMP.
