At dawn, in a flat, marshy wetland, a hunter has unleashed his hunting pack. It includes two dogs: one a pointer with a white coat and brown spots, the other an American foxhound with a black and brown coat. Between them stands the more unusual member of the pack: a velociraptor. In the skies above, an ornithocheirus chases a flock of seagulls among the fiery clouds. Obviously, this is a situation cannot happen today, but with advances in genetic engineering, perhaps it will one day be possible.
I've always like looking at hunting dog paintings. Growing up in Georgia where the hunting culture is strong, I've seen quite a few such works hanging in homes. I've always found them to be a rather pleasant intersection of landscape painting and pet portraiture. This work, of course, was inspired by such paintings, yet I still had to add my own twist.
Note: this scene uses purchased content. The various animals were posed in poser then imported into Vue where the rest of the scene was constructed. Final rendering was done in Vue and took about 23 hours on an Intel I5 2.8 GHz with 8 GB of RAM. Post production was done in GIMP.
Thanks for looking! Daniel

Fantastic and imaginative scene. It is very reminiscent of the paintings you refer too. My grandpop never hunted a thing, let alone picked up a gun, but he had a few painting prints with those kind of images. Excellent work.
My dad raised hunting dogs. Brittanies and then later he had a few English Spaniels. All were lovable dogs and very dutiful hunters. I do believe out there are probably scientists trying to create the first mammoth or some sort out of frozen DNA. This may not be as far in the future as one would think.
As always beautifully rendered. I think you have the soul of a painter the way you compose your works with the lovely sense of light and shade!
