A young woman, left alone on the plains by the death of her husband, is out feeding her pig on her family farm. As she stands in the pigpen, grain bucket in hand, she catches a glimpse of a shadow in the distance. Looking up she sees a silhouette of a rider coming her way...trouble on the horizon. Even the pig looks up from its muddy pen and gazes towards the approaching figure. The widow draws her gun, ready to let her colt revolver send a greeting to the ominous stranger.

I was in the mood to do another Wild West themed work. This time, I was really into getting those deep earth tones for the color. The mud was rather fun to do.

Note: This image uses purchased content. Tools used to construct the scene: poser, zbrush, and vue. Final rendering was done in Vue 9 and took about 14 hours on an Intel I5 2.8 GHz with 8 GB of RAM. Post production was done in GIMP.

Reminds me of the opening from "Riders of the Purple Sage."

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help."
