The winter is just about done here in the metro-Atlanta area, but I had one last cold, snowy image in the queue. This is my second artwork to feature a woolly rhino. I used its official name for the title.
In case you missed my last woolly rhino image, here is a quick cut an paste from that description:
The woolly rhinocerous existed so recently that there are actually depictions of them in neolithic cave paintings. They lived in Europe and Asia and likely came into contact with other pliestocene megafauna such as woolly mammoths. Pretty much their appearance was just like modern rhinos except that they had a furry coat that made them better suited to living on the cold steppes of Asia.
My standard paleoart disclaimer: When it comes to paleoart, the images I create favor 'art' more than 'paleo'. While I try my best to depict animals as accurately as possible, I'm make no claim that they 100% scientifically accurate. The same goes for the environment I depict them in. I am primarily interested in creating aesthetically pleasing images. Scientific accuracy comes second.
Note: This image uses purchased content. The rhino was posed in Poser 6 then imported into Vue 9 where the rest of the scene was constructed. Final rendering was done in Vue 9 and took about 45 hours on an Intel I5 2.8 GHz with 8 GB of RAM. Post production was done in GIMP and involved a good bit of work on the fur, color adjustments and fixes of various render artifacts and errors.
