It's red crab versus blue crab in my latest bit of beach art (my second this month -- I really can't wait for my beach vacation this fall). In this scene a couple of the fiesty crustaceans are squaring off over a small tidal pool that separates their two territories. Waves crashing on the beach create a drumbeat for their battle. Meanwhile, stormy clouds begin to roll in and blot out the blue sky.

The crabs were made in ZBrush then imported into Vue where the rest of the scene was constructed. Final rendering was done in Vue and took about 8 hours on an Intel I5 2.8 GHz with 8 GB of RAM. Post production was done in GIMP.

Thanks for looking!
Daniel

Yes! The metallic irridescence of the crabs is amazing. Your attention to detail always amazes me, the tidal flats with the pebbles, the grasses, all very nice. I like your "signature" gathering storm clouds. They seem to flow like a real storm rolling in from sea. It seems like in a few minutes neither crab will be worried about the boarder as the storm and sea will swamp the beach.

"Oy! Back Off! This is mine!"
"Me? You back off! Before I put another 'shrimp on the barbie!' "

(Why they're Australian crabs? ...I have no idea.)
